The Sea Fox Commander is a center console sport-fisher equipped with powerful dual Evinrude ETEC G2 300hp outboard engines. This combination provides exceptional offshore fishing capabilities along with excellent handling, maneuverability, and impressive speeds of up to 50 knots.

The wide-beam 288 Commander is a top-tier center console sport boat, designed not only as a serious offshore fishing vessel but also with a versatile interior layout that accommodates recreational adventures in bays and harbors. No expense has been spared in outfitting this vessel, which features a high-end Simrad electronics package and a range of factory-fitted options. The powerful Evinrude ETEC G2 300hp extra-long shaft (30-inch) DFI two-stroke outboard engines can achieve a remarkable 51 knots at wide-open throttle (5500 rpm).

The electronics package includes dual Simrad NSS16 EVO2 multi-function displays, an OP50 wired remote controller, a 4G broadband radar kit, a Simrad AC12 Autopilot with WR10 wireless remote, a Simrad marine radio model RS35 VHF with HS35 VHF wireless handset featuring DSC, a GS-25 GPS Antenna, and a Simrad Airmar TM275LH-W transom mount transducer. Additional features include a Fusion stereo head unit and the Evinrude Icon Touch 7.0-inch CTS digital engine display, as well as an iDock Joystick controller for precise docking and maneuvering.

Factory-fitted options on this vessel include colored hull sides (Blue Marlin), matching blue paint on the underside of the Ultima hardtop, a bow table, a bow infill board with cushion, an LED lighting package, overboard waste discharge, white powder coating on the Ultima hardtop and leaning post pod, a Fusion stereo head unit with 8-inch Kicker speakers, and Taco GS-380 outriggers with 15-foot poles, including a center shotgun outrigger. A large, custom-built bait board made from polished stainless steel features a generous Teflon chopping block and is in brand-new condition.

Standard features of the Sea Fox Commander include a massive 228-liter pressurized live well with a perforated Perspex divider and an 1100 gph pump, dual underfloor kill tanks, both fresh and raw water deck washes, recessed trim tabs, an electric anchor winch, adaptive bow seating, fold-out rear quarter seats, and a state-of-the-art composite hull and deck construction with foam-filled stringers. The boat meets Australia’s Level Flotation standard for built-in foam flotation.

The design of the Sea Fox Commander includes a stern area focused on serious fishing, featuring rod holders, racks, kill tanks, live wells, and an array of fishing-oriented gear and equipment. In contrast, the bow is tailored for family use, with spacious molded U-shaped bench seating, comfortable cushions, padded bolsters, ample storage, and pull-out backrests that create two individual forward-facing lounges.

There is plenty of forward seating space, coaming bolster padding, an electric toilet with a holding tank, a portside dive door, and a built-in bait/rigging station with a sliding cooler/icebox located behind the helm chairs. The extremely versatile design allows for relaxation or sports adventures; by fitting all the various seating cushions and infill boards, a sun lounge measuring over 2.5 meters can be created in the bow area, comfortably accommodating at least half a dozen passengers.

When the cushions are removed, the molded fiberglass seating functions as a casting platform with the optional infill board in place. The large anchor well at the bow is equipped for the included Muir electric anchor winch. A special provision exists in this 284-liter locker for stowing scuba diving air tanks.

Behind the locker and under the helm console, there is a toilet compartment with full standing headroom. A bi-fold door on the port side of the console leads to steps descending into this recess, where you will find an electric head, a washbasin with a freshwater faucet, and extra storage shelves, along with easy access to the electrical wiring behind removable hatches.

The standard sturdily built aluminum-framed hardtop features the Simrad VHF radio installed on a bulkhead, conveniently located under the hardtop alongside the switches for deck lighting, easily accessible to both the skipper and co-pilot. The two deluxe helm chairs sit above a sizable multifunction storage box. This cleverly designed unit incorporates a bait/tackle rigging station complete with a flat rigging surface, shelves for storage, and slide-out plastic tackle trays.

Beneath the rigging station is a 60-liter capacity Yeti icebox/cooler for stowing drinks or bait, depending on the trip's purpose. The cooler is mounted on an electrically operated slide-out platform. The standout feature of the stern of the 288 Commander is its impressive oval-shaped live bait/fish well, which is excellently designed to limit disturbance.

Accomodation Notes
  • The stand-out feature of the stern of the 288 Commander is the magnificent live bait/fish well. It is superbly designed with oval shaped sides to limit damage to the baits and pressurized to help prevent the water (and the baits) in the tank from sloshing about when the boat is underway between fishing spots. This superb live well has a capacity of 228 litres and is fed by a 1100gph pump to ensure excellent water flow. With its rectangular shape, the live well may not be wide enough to keep small tuna baits alive, but it will certainly accommodate dozens of big yellowtail and slimy-mackerel-size baits. Alongside the live bait tank are transom corner quarter seats with flip-up back rests and padded vinyl cushions. Between them, below the live well is an additional retractable padded bench seat, thus enabling three or four people to sit across the stern of the boat. The bench seat is also ideally positioned abaft the rigging station so you can sit and rig baits/lures in comfort. There is storage space beneath the rear quarter seats and when folded down you can step on the fibreglass back-rests to walk through to the rear boarding platforms and ladder. Dual batteries are closeted underneath the starboard side quarter seat with general storage opposite. A hatch in the floor beneath the bench seat provides access to the bilge for servicing. As noted earlier, the cockpit floor is self-bailing with drains in the transom corners. There is ample freeboard to the cockpit sides with around 730mm between the cockpit sole and coaming top. This height drops to just 430mm in the transom corners, above the step-on quarter seats. Other features include wide side coamings for easy rod holder installation (eight are standard), dual, big mackerel sized underfloor kill tanks, pop-up stern cleats, under-gunnel horizontal rod rack storage, and a lift-out dive door.
